new book: Madagascar Travel Companion

Announcing the Madagascar Travel Companion

Sara LeHoullier has devoted several years of her life to Madagascar, and it shows.  Her new travel guide exudes the love, understanding, and keen interest that Sara has for Mada, and uses it to help travelers to the island to have a phenomenal experience.  I had the honor of being asked to provide the photographs for Sara’s book!

The book is published by Other Places Publishing, a company founded and run by RPCVs (Returned Peace Corps Volunteers) like ourselves.  OPP is dedicated to creating travel guides that provide insiders’ knowledge on how to have a culturally, historically, and naturally amazing experience, without spending millions and millions of Ariary.  Check out their website here, and all of the new books that have been released or in development.

Sara and I served in Peace Corps Madagascar over more or less the same time frame, but in two very different places.  We knew of each other, but it actually wasn’t until after the PC years, when I was still living and working in Mada and she was managing Spotlight Madagascar (online news forum and NGO) from abroad that we finally met, via email if I remember right… and we hit it off like ampinamana efa ela (old friends).

Sara told me of her book plans and her Masters work in sustainable development, and as she mapped out a research trip to Madagascar I made sure she got a good dose of the Northwest (my beloved PCV home!) and the Northeast, the coastal rainforest paradise where I was working.

I was honored when Sara asked me to provide photos for the book!  I can’t imagine another author whose words I’d like my images to complement.  And the Madagascar travel guide from Other Places Publishing is in full color… How exciting for a first book!  Some of the images to appear in the book are shown on this page.  To see more of my photos, visit my website, www.christiturner-sustainablephotography.com.

traveling in style…local style

Sara’s insights on Madagascar, where she is currently living and working as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer, will be an asset to any traveler who wants to see Madagascar with open eyes.
